One of our chickens was missing

One of chickens went awal today. Mildred mysteriously disappeared between 9 to 9.30am and could not be found, much to the distress of Tracey. I didn't know about this until the middle of the afternoon. Driving home and worrying about a lost pet and upset friend I was more than relieved to find her pecking around the daffodils in the back garden.
Relief quickly turned to frustration as I chased her round and round the garden, she is good at dodgems, that's for sure. No need to go to my dance class tonight I've done enough exercise for a week.

Boxed Beauties

The joy of the Internet is to find things that in life you wouldn't ever have time to track down. These boxes, or tins are just gorgeous. I have no idea if they are for storage or not. I just like them. Pinterest is a really great way to look at and find images and topics that interest you.

Cute displays

We love this little vintage vase. What an amazing little object,as Miranda might say' Such Fun' or as our hen Miranda might say,'cluck cluck'.
We are still waiting for eggs, however the ladies have all settled in really well, and taking themselves into their little house everyday at dusk. Tracey is amazed at how easy it is to care for chickens and even I can round them up and shoo them in the right direction.

New girls in the hood

I have no idea if this is Molly or Milly however Tracey resisted the temptation to buy a pygmy goat/hamster/guinea pig/baa lamb/ lop eared rabbit or ferret and stuck to the brief and purchased a pair of gorgeous Marans who lay dark brown eggs. If each chicken lays three eggs a week that means we will have the dozen eggs we want, plus lots of fun and chicken frolics.
I must say that I was so impressed that Tracey went to an auction and bid for these. She also bought a giant meat and potato pie. I went dancing instead.

Aw Perleeeeeeeeeez

I do hope that when Tracey goes to Fur and Feather in Clitheroe later on this afternoon she doesn't bring one of these home. Or a pot bellied pig or a goat, she is supposed to searching for a Speckledy Hen or a pair of cream Legbars or even a pair of ducks. I will post later to update.

at home with the ladies

It took a little persuading to get them to leave their cosy home this morning, but now they are scratting and scraping away looking for bugs and worms and finding their way around their hood.

Mildred and Miranda L to R

Look who came to live at Grange Fell today, straight from Edward Boothman of Silsden who has been highly recommended as the best breeder in the area. They certainly are a pair of beauties and when Mr Boothman has found us the perfect cross Arcauna that lays blue eggs he is going to give us a call. The ladies are a bit timid at the moment and keep hiding, however in a day or two we expect them to be ruling the roost.

Lamb

Wey hey, we saw some. our first spring lambs near Bolton Abbey. As we were driving home from Grassington we often detour around Linton and Burnsall, why, because it is so gorgeous and in the early spring sunshine especially so.
Of course any trip to Grassington is not complete without a trip to The Rustic Rabbit. the Potter and our favourite Burnt Rock.  Two steps in and I wanted to buy everything. On leaving, carrying a gorgeous handmade birdcage, a line of tugboats a miniature guardian angel and a tiny rocking horse you have to ask yourself, where else could you buy such an amazing array of goodies. If you are in or near Grassington go. and the artwork is just fantastic too.

Lilac Time

After the snow comes Spring and there are lots of reasons to get excited about new life in the garden.the buds are fattening the birds are scooting about building nests and spring bulbs are bursting through and there is a faint greener than wintertime haze around the trees.

We Heart Rabbits

Exciting news and it's not about rabbits. It's about chickens which will arrive next week, Oooooer the chicken house is dispatched the run ready all we've got to do is get it all ready to get the chickens next week. Names may be submitted if you have any suggestions that don't involve stuffing, gravy or roast potatoes.

Pink Rabbits

When you can't find a lamb or a hare try looking for a rabbit I say.
It has been such a cold end to winter that I am getting quite desperate for more signs of spring. This time of year just brings on impatience for longer days and the sun just strong enough to warm the skin.

Shell Show

I really want to make one of these, I find birds face to face a bit scary, but bizarrely find all things 'bird' very beautiful. Eggs and the variety of colours and patterns are totally fascinating. There are lots of garden birds here but our robin always makes me smile, he is very territorial and generally is in and out of anything new. It will be very amusing to see how he is going to react to the chickens when they are arrive.

Looking for Hares

We haven't spotted any lambs yet so I'm looking for rabbits and hares instead. I admit to having a bit of a thing for art based on hares and deer, sometimes greyhounds too. I have no idea why, it's probably some deeply held celtic memory. Or that they all have fantastic structure that reflects bags of character.

Pink and Green

we didn't find any lambs so we are looking for twigs. Not just twigs though, twigs with swollen buds and promising spring just around the corner. There are small blossoms on tree I cannot name, catkins and a slight green haze about the willow trees. It is cold though and blowing a gale so perhaps serious searching for spring may have to wait for more gentle days.

Sunshine and Snowdrops

It's true nature gives us our greatest pleasures. Whatever you think you need and haven't got. just look around your spot on earth, even if it's mainly concrete and nature will be there.
