Thank You

Thanks everyone who follows our blog we have had more than three thousand views now, which is amazing.
Tracey is busy writing chicken related lists, and I am just back from my second dance class. Which was fab, need to learn how to turn corners.

Cakes to be baked and puddings to be made.

Very soon it will be my youngest grandchild's first birthday and cakes for her birthday tea party must be made. I suspect however she'd rather have a slice of garlic bread and some garden peas.

Snowdrop searching

Snow Snow Snow, sorry about lack of blogs. however it might have been because of the SNOW. We are at the end of this spell of snowy weather and it will thaw today. As beautiful as it is, the very nature of being a B&B means we have to be very vigilant keeping the access to Grange Fell safe.
Today is so beautiful with blue skies and sparkling fields of pure white snow, I am just a little excited though, that when the thaw is complete, snowdrops will be revealed.

Snowy Days

All I can say is brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
It is mighty cold and icy here with snow forecast for later. It will, in fact is beautiful, the snow shovel is placed by the back door, the grit is ready and the slow cooker is on.
And now it has started to fall gently in the gloaming of dusk, becoming a steady drift of the fine powdery sort of snow that looks as if we have been dredged in icing sugar.

So far we have had absolutely no luck with any birdhouses in the garden, We get lots of nesting birds but the birdhouses always stay empty. We've put another one up and i really really hope it gets some tenants this year.

Seeds of Hope

After the last few days of gardening, our thoughts have turned to summer planting. Tracey is planning all the edibles and I'm thinking about the flowers. This year is the first year we've had a greenhouse so we can get an early start. I really want to grow all our own annuals for the hanging baskets and borders but fancy a go at the very tricky delphiniums and echinaceas . Wish us luck, Tracey doesn't need it but my track record of growing from seed is little short of disastrous.

Christmas Day Breakfast

When you are two, the most important thing to get right on Christmas Day is breakfast, of course this has to be done before opening presents. Ryan gets it right.

A nice cup of tea

we get so many positive comments about our breakfast china it's really heartening. We've dispensed with matching sets of anything and have a collection of old and new. The only thing that links it all is extreme prettiness. We love Pip's Studio. Kate and Alice. V&A , and a random collection of vintage pieces sourced from all over the place really. It's surprising how many memories are evoked over tea and toast.

Planning Blossoms for the spring.

Grange Fell's garden is looking just a little more tidy, we have spent the day cutting back and cleaning out ready for the chickens which will be arriving in February. Excited is not the word,
We are also planning to move some fruit trees to give us a little more wind protection and define the garden borders. The views to Simon's Seat in Keighley are fabulous but it does leave us open to the raw north wind, so we will add to the new hedges with a few more trees and glimpse the great giants seat through boughs of blossom. Well that's the plan anyway.
